The Jamaica Ship Registry was set up to carry out the registration of all types of ships, pleasure craft, ships under construction as well as bareboat chartered tonnage.

It is administered by the Maritime Authority of Jamaica, a statutory arm of the Government of Jamaica, whose operations are certified by the American Bureau of Shipping Quality Evaluators (ABSQE) to ISO 9001:2000 quality standards. As a full service maritime administration with IMO ‘White List’ accreditation, the MAJ is responsible for other aspects of the island’s shipping industry including the certification and welfare of seafarers and the prevention of marine pollution.

Maintaining offices in Jamaica and London with Deputy Registrars in some of the world’s major shipping centres, the JSR employs an international network of exclusive as well as non-exclusive surveyors.
