The JSR took a giant stride in its bid to
expand in the Far East following a successful three-pronged marketing
offensive in Hong Kong, Singapore
and
China.
Eric
Deans, Registrar General at the Maritime Authority of Jamaica
(which administers the JSR) met with ship owners, class, lawyers
and other key stakeholders during an extended tour of a region
the JSR is keen to serve.
The
acceleration of the Chinese economy, which is widely tipped to
outflank the US by 2020, will open up avenues for the JSR in the
Far East. The JSR feels its quality brand is ideally positioned
to provide niche services to ship owners throughout
the region.
The
recent appointment of Allen Walters as a Deputy Registrar for
Singapore is a sure sign of the JSR’s commitment to this
area.

During
his visit to the Far East, Mr Deans accepted an invitation to
make a presentation at “The Future of Ship Registers”
conference in Hong Kong.
The
conference attracted delegates from around the world and provided
the JSR with the chance to contribute to the debate on major issues
facing the shipping industry today.
