The JSR is ideally placed to provide a quality
registry service to the LNG owners expected to head to the Caribbean
following the completion of a major energy accord between Jamaica
and Venezuela. Under
the agreement Jamaica will receive two million tonnes of LNG from
Venezuela every day, with the first shipment expected to reach
Jamaican waters in 2009.
Eric
Deans, Registrar General, Maritime Authority of Jamaica, welcomed
the completion of the deal and believes it will lead to an increase
in activity at the JSR.
He
said: “The project is part of Jamaica’s energy diversity
scheme. We expect a number of LNG owners to relocate to Jamaica
and the wider Caribbean region in response to the increased vessel
traffic.

“LNG owners, and those in other niche markets,
demand quality. There is no room for compromise on that. At the
JSR we share that focus and know the services we offer are second
to none. Any owners looking to work with us can be certain of
our commitment on that front,” Mr Deans said.
