In keeping with its novel “Blue Ocean Strategy”, the
new management at the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) is poised
to reactivate the officers programme (Class 2/1) which trains officers
to the highest level to man international vessels.
In preparation the
CMI has beefed up its academic staff, adding highly qualified
personnel from India, Japan, and Cuba to its world class team.
In readiness for the
challenges of the expanded programme, the Institute has also pulled
out all the stops to upgrade and modernise its facilities. The
workshop is being extensively renovated and the library has received
a substantial supply of new literature. The facility also boasts
ultra-modern deck, engine and crane simulators.
Student
accommodation has been improved and staff offices have been rationalised
and expanded.
These improvements reflect the market driven nature of the CMI’s
programme which will allow the new
management to respond effectively to emerging demands.

Strategic
alliances have also been forged and strengthened with diverse
institutions and organisations within and outside of the maritime
sector. Agreements have been made with local universities, Yacht
Masters, Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM) and
international ship owners such as Harren and Partners.
CMI
is on the move!
