Jamaica
cruising ahead of competition
Jamaica
confirmed its position as the Caribbean’s leading cruise
destination at the World Travel Awards, the Oscars of the travel
industry.
Jamaica, the world’s
leading cruise destination in 2006, has had another record breaking
year with the ports of Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Port Antonio
all performing well.
Cruise
arrivals increased by 7%, far outstripping the Caribbean average
of 4.5%, while a 10.8% rise in ship calls led to a 17.7% climb
in
passenger
numbers.

Montego Bay, which will start a $67 million expansion project at
the end of 2007, has played a lead role in the islands success.
Last
year it became the home port of two vessels (Ocean Village One and
the Sea Princess) and is one of the few Caribbean ports able to
host the 160,000 GT Freedom of the Seas directly alongside.
