KVH Pledges Support to Maritime UK’s Women in Maritime Campaign

KVH, a leading provider of maritime connectivity and content solutions, is delighted to pledge its support for Women in Maritime, an initiative of industry group Maritime UK. The Women in Maritime campaign aims to promote fairness, equality, and inclusion within the maritime sector, bringing together leaders from across the maritime sector to identify practical steps to increase the number of women in maritime, and crucially within senior roles across its shipping, ports, marine, and business services industries.

The Northern launch of the Women in Maritime campaign took place in Liverpool yesterday, with support by several members of KVH’s Liverpool staff, many of whom have actively mentored and encouraged younger women in their workplace and industry for many years. Says Sue Henney, EMEA marketing director for KVH, who has worked in the maritime industry for 25 years: “The maritime sector is a truly international workplace with a wealth of exciting and diverse opportunities.” Ms. Henney’s colleagues in the Liverpool office include five women with a combined total of nearly 70 years’ experience in the maritime industry.

Maritime businesses have initially been asked to sign a Women in Maritime pledge, and KVH officially signed earlier this week. “KVH is committed to building an employment culture that actively supports and celebrates gender diversity, at all levels, throughout our organisation and our industry,” says Elizabeth Jackson, chief marketing officer for KVH. “We are proud to say that we have an extremely diverse team throughout the business and we support the belief that achieving a balanced workforce in the maritime sector will undoubtedly improve culture, behaviour, outcomes, profitability, and productivity.”

The initiative aims to reach throughout the maritime industry. “The need for fairness, equality, and inclusion is clearer than ever and the maritime sector must embrace diversity because it’s the right thing to do. Equally there is a strong business case for action,” says Sue Teriplowski, OBE, chair of the Women in Maritime taskforce.

KVH and Pilipinas Global Network Limited to Bring Philippine Basketball Association Game Coverage to Merchant Ships

Starting next week, seafarers can enjoy coverage of Asia’s popular professional basketball league games via KVH’s innovative content delivery service

MIDDLETOWN, RI – December 14, 2017 – KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI), and Pilipinas Global Network Limited (PGNL) today announced a deal to bring coverage of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) full games to merchant ships.

Under the terms of the agreement, KVH will distribute PBA games for the 43rd and 44th PBA seasons, which begin with the Philippine Cup on December 17, 2017. A men’s professional basketball league, the PBA was the first such league in Asia and its popularity throughout the region is widespread. However, many of those fans miss out on seeing games because they serve onboard commercial vessels; throughout the global shipping industry, Filipinos comprise the single greatest number of seafarers. The PBA games will be delivered via satellite to vessels subscribed to KVH’s SPORTSlinkTM and IP-MobileCastTM content delivery service for multicasting news, sports, and entertainment at sea. Onboard, seafarers will be able to access the full PBA games on mobile devices, desktops, and televisions, enjoying the basketball action without adding communications costs or affecting vessel communications performance. “PGNL is devoted to bringing the PBA closer to every Filipino overseas. This partnership with KVH is a step toward reaching out to seafarers who would want to experience the PBA while they’re away from home,” says Ernesto D. Sta. Maria, Jr., PGNL president and CEO. “We work hard to make sure that more Filipinos all over the world get to enjoy quality sports content from PGNL.”

KVH TracPhone V7-HTS System Delivers Maritime Broadband at Triple Previous Speeds for a New Era of Digital Life at Sea

V7HTSwICM_reflections

The new 60 cm, Ku-band satellite antenna system enables leisure boaters and commercial mariners to stream HD content and conduct video calls at sea while simultaneously supporting a free, unlimited use data channel

MIDDLETOWN, RI – October 31, 2017 – An advanced, 60 cm marine satellite antenna system designed to consistently deliver the fastest data speeds globally to the maritime market will be unveiled tomorrow by KVH Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: KVHI), at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, in Florida. The TracPhone® V7-HTS achieves data download speeds of up to 10 Mbps, three times faster than current 60 cm models on the market, including KVH’s own system, and fast enough to enable the streaming of HD-quality content at sea. In addition, to further meet the demands of increased data usage at sea, KVH is offering the TracPhone V7-HTS with new hybrid airtime plans that deliver a free, lower-speed unlimited use data channel that runs at the same time as the high-speed data channel. The faster data speeds of the TracPhone V7-HTS are accomplished by a combination of KVH’s proprietary antenna system design and industry-leading mini-VSAT Broadbandsm network, which recently began using advanced Intelsat Epic satellites for high throughput satellite (HTS) capabilities, and additional capacity from SKY Perfect JSAT satellites. With the HTS network, KVH added 25 million square miles to its global maritime Ku-band high-speed connectivity footprint. With the combination of fast data streaming and global coverage, the TracPhone V7-HTS is poised to transform the use of broadband at sea. For the leisure market, the system is designed to enable yacht owners and their guests to enjoy HD streaming, popular social apps, and other benefits of connectivity for a new era of digital life at sea. The captain of a 44.8-meter superyacht, who is one of the first to use the system, reports: “We just voyaged from Florida to Panama with the new TracPhone V7-HTS onboard, and enjoyed excellent speeds of 10 Mbps. This is a great service for a superyacht demanding higher data speeds than a traditional VSAT can provide,” says Bryan Antill, captain of the M/Y Surina.

For the commercial maritime market, the TracPhone V7-HTS is designed to enable merchant fleets to take advantage of cloud-based software programs, remote system monitoring, and data analytics in the pursuit of digitalization. With applications such as remote system monitoring requiring frequent data uploads, the TracPhone V7-HTS provides upload speeds of up to 3 Mbps, six times faster than KVH’s current 60 cm system. “We are thrilled to offer the streaming fast TracPhone V7-HTS to boaters and mariners around the world, so they can experience the benefits of connectivity even while at sea. Ship managers can improve their operational efficiency by taking advantage of data-driven tools and decision-making, while yacht captains can offer guests onboard the faster connectivity they desire,” says Martin Kits van Heyningen, co-founder and chief executive officer of KVH. “We continue to bring innovative solutions to the marine market, including a network configuration able to provide high-speed data as well as unlimited use data all from the same system. What other services are offering as their airtime plans is a free value-added bonus from KVH.”
