LONDON: APRIL 13TH, 2018: Shipping Innovation is delighted to welcome the Port of Antwerp as a Gold Sponsor of the International Maritime Forum which will be held in Liverpool on 21 June, 2018 as part of the International Business Festival (www.internationalbusinessfestival.com).
The conference, which will be titled: The Northern Maritime Powerhouse: Driving global trade post-Brexit, will look at how digitalisation and increased connectivity can enhance port processes and drive innovation to boost global trade.
It will discuss blockchain technologies and Big Data in the context of streamlining shipping and port operations to the lasting benefit of the end-users as well as the importers and exporters. Organised by Shipping Innovation, creator of London International Shipping Week, this high-level forum is designed to spark lively debate among key ports, shippers and supply chain leaders.
Shipping Innovation is delighted to count among its top-level line up of speakers H.E. Daniel Fábrega, the Republic of Panama’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization.
Announcing the news, Llewellyn Bankes-Hughes, Director of Shipping Innovation, said participation by an organisation as pivotal to global trade as the Port of Antwerp, was important when you consider the International Maritime Forum will bring together key thought leaders in ports and shipping to discuss what Britain must do to boost trading activity after Brexit.
“Britain will be forced to reach out to the East and to the West to develop new trading partners, exploit new capacities and learn new ideas from world-leading ports and maritime authorities,” he said.
Wim Dillen, Regional Development Manager, Antwerp Port Authority, said the UK is a key market for the Port of Antwerp.
“More than 14 million tonnes are being shipped every year between Antwerp and this maritime trading partner and we are keen to maintain and further strengthen the port’s position with regard to the UK. In doing so, Antwerp can offer two very strong advantages in particular, as an investment location close to the European centres of decision-making, and as a gateway to Europe from where the continent can be reached quickly and efficiently,” he said.
The Port of Antwerp will bring a high-level delegation to the International Business Festival to meet with UK supply chain decision makers. It will use the International Maritime Forum to highlight a number of innovation and digitisation projects it has underway to enhance its clients’ supply chain efficiency and transparency, Mr Dillen added.
